Dunnock (Hedge Sparrow)
The Dunnock is a secretive little creature and not very well known, however it's very likely to be kohabiting with you.
It likes to stay hidden and doesn’t often venture far from the coverage of vegetation, which is why it's often called a Hedge Sparrow. It is rather unassuming in its dull brown colouring and is often misidentified as a House Sparrow, however, it's not related. Although small it does have a beautiful soft warbling song, similar to a Blackbird.
What do Dunnocks Eat?
Dunnocks will search out small insects, spiders and worms that they find at ground level. A great way to support Dunnocks is to support their natural food source, insects. This can be done by leaving leaf litter to accumulate and planting insect-friendly plants.
