The largest of the finches in New Zealand. The male is instantly recognisable by its green/yellow stomach and the pretty yellow edges of his wings. The Greenfinch is a British bird that was introduced around 1870 it is now common throughout New Zealand and is a frequent garden visitor.
What do Greenfinch eat?
Predominantly a seed eater they have a particular liking for small seeds such as rapeseed but will happily scoff oats, wheat and barley and it will visit a feeder or eat from the ground.
To help support the Greenfinch pop some Kohab Wild Bird Seed in your feeder. It has some of its favourite seeds.
Providing insect-friendly flowers will also give them a great natural food source.
