Mindful gifts to support wildlife.

Gifts that support your local environment, that are ecofriendly, are something that will be enjoyed, and not end up in landfill are hard to find.

Positive Gifting.

We all love to give gifts. The positive of gifting is the happiness that you create for the person receiving the gift. However the environmental impact can outweigh the joy.

I know, as a parent of young girls, that kids birthday parties can be disturbing when you see all the plastic - toys and packaging - and children getting gift unwrapping apathy. It’s not kids’ fault really, they have grown up in a world where things are cheap and disposable and they are so used to getting things all the time, that you’re not sure they really appreciate anything.

It’s not all kids too. At Christmas the endless Secret Santa requests for $10 gifts that no one wants or needs can feel somewhat pointless. You know most of it will be in the landfill by the end of January!

But maybe Kohab has the answer…

Give a gift they really want.

Making or asking for suggestions is a good way to get gifting right. I like people to give me things that can be used or made, the same for my children, so the gift doesn’t become another ‘thing’ in my home, cluttering up the space. Last Christmas I received some cookie ingredients in a jar that you simply added milk to; a lovely gift for time poor mums! Books are great, they can be read and then passed on or donated; developing  a love of books is a good way to try to keep kids off screens.

Mindful gifts that give special moments with nature.

As we developed the Kohab range, we were conscious of what great gifts our products would make. Supporting the bird life in your garden is a win win as watching the birds is proven to give happiness, relaxation and a connection to mother nature. What better than to give all that while supporting birds wellbeing and supplementing their diets.

Mindful gifts for kids.

A box of wild bird seed or nectar is a wonderful gift for a child’s birthday party.  They will enjoy watching the birds come and go and can get to know the animals they kohabit with.  Or a couple of our hooks and a bag of oranges is a novel and unique gift and can be reused again and again.

For grandparents, looking for a considered and long-lasting gift, a birdhouse or feeder will give hours of fun and start a conversation about kohabiting and the awareness of creatures in the garden. Building the house or feeder together is a lovely activity to share together, especially as it's so easy the kids can take charge.

Kohab Birdhouses come flat pack. They are made of high-quality marine plywood and come with stainless steel hardware so they will last and last. So the kids will have years of enjoyment watching new generations of birdlife in their garden.

A mindful gift for a person with everything.

We all know that person with everything or someone who is difficult to buy for. Or that person whose life is crazy busy. Giving them something for the birdlife around them will make them stop and slow down will help them relax. Add in a coffee mug to encourage them to sit down and watch will give them a much appreciated time out.

So next time you have a gift to give, why not give Kohab a go? You’ll be surprised at how much joy you’ll give. And hey, don’t forget about yourself too…
