The Redpoll is a small Finch with dull streaks of brown colours and a pretty red tuft on its forehead. The male also has a beautiful pinkish red chest after its first few moults. It has a strong triangular beak, like others in the finch family, that it uses for breaking up hard seeds. They are mainly found in the South Island where you are likely to see them in flocks.
What does the Redpoll Eat?
Redpoll mainly eat seeds and have a love for grass seeds, but they will also eat insects to get a protein boost. They have a liking for fruit buds when in season which can be a problem in orchard areas.
To help support the Redpoll pop some Kohab Wild Bird Seed, in your feeder.
